In fact, when it came to MKUltra, even Dulles’ son was subject to their experiments, showing us that Allen Dulles truly had no limits to his darkness.
The Players: Allen Dulles, as the director of the CIA, played a pivotal role in sanctioning MKUltra. Under his direction, Sidney Gottlieb, a chemist and the program's chief, spearheaded the experiments.
Gottlieb is often remembered as the architect of MKUltra, designing many of its most daring and ethically dubious experiments, but was one of many at the time.
The Experiments: MKUltra involved a series of illegal experiments on humans to identify and develop drugs and procedures to be used in interrogations in order to weaken individuals and force confessions through mind control. The program encompassed more than 150 human experiments involving psychedelic drugs, paralytics, electroshock therapy, and various forms of torture. LSD was a central focus of MKUltra. 1. **Project Bluebird** (later renamed Project Artichoke) - This was an earlier project that focused on the use of various methods to control an individual's mind and to extract information from resisting minds.
2. **Operation Midnight Climax** - A project that involved the administration of LSD and other chemicals to unwitting individuals in social situations, without their consent, to study their reactions and the possibility of manipulating them.
3. **Project Chatter** - A Navy program that preceded MKUltra, focusing on identifying and testing truth serums and other interrogation and mind-control techniques.
