Praying for Children

Praying for Children

Abba Father, we pray that our child is fearfully and wonderfully made, and ask you to continue knitting our child together in the precise way you desire (Psalm 139: 13-14)

We rejoice that all of our child’s days have been ordained by you (Psalm 139:16) and we acknowledge that our child’s days belong to you, from the first to the last and every day in between.

We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict our child of their sins, and bring awareness of God’s righteousness and His coming judgement apart from salvation (John 16:8). We furthermore pray that our child never be deceived about the state of their heart before God. (Matthew 7:21-23)

We ask Father that our child have a close relationship with you as they abide in Christ (John 15:7-9).

We claim on our child’s behalf the truth that you have not called them for impurity, but in holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7).

In Jesus Name we pray you would give our child a heart that trusts in Him, leaning not on our understanding, but acknowledging Him in all things as we know your desire to direct our child’s paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Please grant our child a biblical fear of the Lord - an awareness of His Holiness and His Power, and a reverence that inspires obedience.

We pray that our child will know You intimately in their life, and that they would fear you and their knowledge of you would lead our child to wisdom and insight (Proverbs 9:10).

We pray that our child would develop self-control, thus securing His testimony before others (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). We ask you to help our child renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live a self-controlled, upright, and godly life in the present age (Titus 2:12).

Father God you have said that our child’s worth is more than that of many sparrows, and that you are the only One who can provide for their needs (Luke 12:24).

We pray that our child would love your Word and meditate on it throughout their days (Psalm 119:97).

We pray that our child would be great - not by intelligence or power or fame, but by serving others (Mark 10:43-45).

Father God, grant our child a compassionate heart, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with others and forgiving them as they have been forgiven (Colossians 3:12-13).

We pray that the Faithful One would enable our child to hold fast to their faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23).

We pray that our child would grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

Abba Father, grant our child with a heart that seeks justice, loves mercy, and walks humbly with you (Micah 6:8).

We pray our child would walk with the wise, becoming wise themselves and steer them away from companionship with fools (Proverbs 13:20)

We pray our child would live as light in a dark world (Ephesians 5:8).

We pray that our child would live with an awareness that their life is meant for bearing fruit (Philippians 1:22, John 15:8).

We ask Lord that you lead our child in walking in your ways that in the path of your judgments, O LORD, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul (Isaiah 26:8).

Heavenly Father, how we praise you for the gift of parenthood! Thank you for entrusting us with the care and nurture of a child for the time period you’ve ordained. Please keep us mindful, as we offer prayer for the unborn and born child, that this precious child is not mine - but yours, and you’ve charged us with a sacred task.

Thank you that you will equip us to fulfill this high calling, as we abide in Christ and walk in your grace.

In Jesus Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
